attending from nine counties surrounding the Sacramento region. On
March 29th, Teichert Construction opened its yard as the co-host of
the event. Students were given the opportunity to actually operate
heavy equipment in an arena, visit with industry exhibitors and
watch 300 of their peers compete in a design/build
competition.
Students took
home a parent permission form for career information exchange form.
Those with signed forms received hand stamps which allowed
exhibitors to sign students up for follow information and job
interviews. 399 0f the
1,349 students signed up with employer exhibitors. That's
29.5%
Also, State
Senator Jack Scott, authored SCR102, a
concurrent resolution honoring March 29th, 2006 as Construction
Career Awareness Day in Northern California.
This was a first
and we are grateful for the recognition.
Assemblyman
Roger Niello presented Teichert CEO Doug Urbick with a Certificate
of Recognition and Appreciation for co-hosting the
event.
With
billions of dollars finally being considered toward the
revitalization of career-tech in schools, it's important that we
all remember to INVITE THEM
TO OUR
EVENTS!
CCCC's EVP
Adrienne Monroe (below) was on hand to distribute brochures to
students with regional salary information for a variety of
construction careers
and the very
popular plastic "hardhats. "
