Ms. Monroe was formerly the Deputy County Supervisor for the 3rd District of Yolo County. In addition to her experience at the city and county level, she also worked for a California State Senator and has an adult education vocatonal education teaching credential. For several years prior to her roles in public service, she worked for a large Sacramento based construction company where she learned first hand about the excellent compensation, benefits and advancement opportunities in the construction industry. Monroe is a natural advocate for construction careers and a regular participant in Construction Career Awareness Day events and outreach to youth.

"Like most young people today, I worked odd jobs and took a few classes at the community college. When I finally took a position with a construction company, I made 3 times more money, established good credit, bought a house and was able to enjoy many comforts in life. I had health insurance, life insurance, retirement and they even paid $2,000 per year toward my education. By the time I knew what I wanted from a college education, I could afford to treat myself to a fine education from a very expensive college. What matters most is that I didn't rush it. When I was ready, I truly enjoyed the experience."

"I think students and parents are relieved to know that there are many exciting and lucrative options in construction and building trades. With 500,000 people moving to California every year, there will be a need for housing, transportation and employment. Who do you think is going to build it?"
