2005 was the first time in California history that CTE students had been invited to the capitol to show
legislators the value of CTE. Thanks to CCCC and co-host State Senator Abel Maldonado (R-Santa Maria)
students and teachers now make this an annual event; holding shop class literally on the steps of the state capitol.
Construction is the central theme. In 2006 and 2007; the governor himself came out to visit with teachers and
students and the check-out the projects.
