Programs

The California Coalition for Construction in the Classroom was formed to promote educational programs that open doors to the exciting career opportunities in California's multi-billion dollar construction industry, thereby attracting highly qualified workers into the industry. To do this, we are developing and implementing a multi-faceted program which focuses on career awareness and exploration of opportunities in construction, as well as education modules to enhance key language and math skills which are critical to success in the industry. The following is a list of our initial programs.

Job Shadowing
CCCC is leading the industry's "job shadowing" effort. In cooperation with America's Promise, CCCC recruits construction industry representatives to participate in the program, produces industry-specific program materials, and publicizes our efforts to the media.

Shop Programs
CCCC is driving the campaign to reinvigorate California's "shop" programs in our high schools. Wood and metal shop, as well as construction academies, are the gateway to successful careers in the industry. We are working with state leaders to leverage resources for these programs, as well as provide incentives for their creation.

Skill Competitions
CCCC promotes skill competitions through SkillsUSA and design/build contests. Through our partnership with SkillsUSA we help establish student organizations, support local competitions, and participate in the students' leadership training.

Speakers Bureau
Nobody can explain the benefits of the industry like you. That is why CCCC's speakers bureau works to get our members the opportunity to give presentations at career days, PTA meetings, school board hearings, and other venues that promote our message.

On-line Resource
Our web site,
www.constructcareers.org provides information about careers in construction, our programs, industry contacts, coming events and other timely information.

Other Programs
Other groups have programs that also promote careers in the industry, such as BuildUp, Our City and California Intern Summer. We support those programs and work to get them implemented. For information about these programs or to have yours promoted by us, contact the CCCC office.

A 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization, CCCC was founded by the California Association of Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors, National Association (CAL SMACNA). As a federation of over 60 construction associations, CCCC is comprised of the entire industry, including manufacturers, homebuilders, specialty contractors, general contractors, architects, engineers, apprenticeship programs, and inspectors.
